Welcome to my home... Decals on mirrors

When we moved into our new home in June of 2007, my first order of business for the living room was to find a good size black mirror to place on an empty wall.  We have vaulted ceilings and it made this blank wall, look even more blank! :o)

I got lucky and found a wood mirror in the size I wanted at a yard sale for only $15. I took it home and painted it black, then of course added my signature... a vinyl decal.  For almost 3 years the mirror with our monogram graced our living room.  Many of our guests came into our home and complimented it... I even got holiday gift requests for similar decals from my friends.  (My friends know they can usually count on a personalized, decal related gift from me).

This week I decided to change it up a bit.  This month marks 3 years in our home, it since it was no longer new, I decided to change it up a bit and bring some "new" back into it.  Both my husband and son were gone all week.  My son, to camp... my husband, on business.  Now my husband knows when he is away, he can usually expect to come home to something either new or different.  It is just the way it is.  :o)  

Well, when my son got home from camp last night, he came into the living room to share his camp experiences with me.  Before he even finished his first sentence, he began to smile... then pointed up.  "I like that Mom!"  Yes, my 12 year old noticed my hard work, and appreciated it.  I must admit, it was rewarding to hear him say that.  Now let's see what my husband has to say about it in a few hours.

Baby's 1st Birthday

We celebrated Mya's 1st birthday in April. Yes, April... this just proves how long it takes me to upload photos.  We had a blast celebrating her big day, and I may have had just as much fun creating her decor.

Instead of a character theme, I went with dark pink & lime with touches of light pink.  I love that color combo.  I started with a logo I designed for her.  I cut a decal of it for the glass door which made a great birthday girl photo background for guests to take their photos with her.

The utensils were stored in empty vegetable cans I wrapped with coordinating ribbon. I made some stickers with the logo that went on some of the center of the cans to give them that personal touch.

I created the personalized logo water bottle labels with three coordinating designs.  A few people took these home as souvenirs. I cannot find the photo of the actual favors, but my son and I made dark chocolate & lime colored, chocolate covered pretzel rods with white pearl sprinkles.  We put each pair in a special bag with a tag.. also with her birthday logo and a nice thank you message.

I placed the fresh flowers I bought for the birthday girl that morning in a vase that I put a smaller version of her logo decal.  I just love having fresh flowers in the house.  I wish we could get flowers and veggies to grow in the backyard so I can keep them in the house more often.  We shall try again this season.

I also added her logo decal to her high chair aka throne for the day.  She seemed to really like having something to look / play with on her high chair so I created a non-birthday theme decal that we have kept on the high chair since the big day.  It's great and wipes clean very easily.  I enjoy watching her trace the design with her finger. (Good eye / fine motor skill practice).

And no birthday party is complete without cake... and she was loving every bit of having her own special cake.  Of course she didn't mind sharing with her Daddy.

When I bought myself a set of tumblers for our own household needs, I did not even think about personalizing them.  I really just wanted a really good plastic cup, that looked like glass and would keep our drinks cold, without leaving a puddle of water when the sweat.  I didn't think I was asking for too much... until I couldn't find these dream cups.  More than a month after I began my search, I found them... *the clouds open* they were just what I had been searching for *the sun shines in on them*.

As I was in the kitchen with my 12 year old one day, he looked at the new tumblers and said, "I'm surprised you haven't added our names to these yet."  And as he is the inspiration behind many of my projects, they were personalized by the time he got home from school the next day.  He smiled. I added a 2 quart pitcher for personalized goodies perfection.
